Troubleshooting the Unable To Access Online Services Error in COD: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty(COD): Modern Warfare is one of the most famous first-person shooter games out there. The game allows you to complete a story mode, and also play online against other enthusiasts and professionals.

A common error that players face when they are playing multiplayer is the “Unable To Access Online Services” error. This indicates that there may be some issue while establishing a connection to their servers or any of its features.

This article shall provide you all the alternative solutions to fix this error.

The reasons why you face the “Unable To Access Online Services” error

Before we get to the solutions, let us take a moment to see the causes of these errors.

Activision Server Issues –

Servers may sometimes have issues or breakdowns. More often than not, this is the most common cause of errors. Under such circumstances, the player is not able to do much. Occasionally, Activision tends to halt server connection when they are repairing bugs, or adding updates to them. On other days, it may be due to an unexpected technical or program error, that neither the gaming company nor you expected. There are also a few situations where more players try to access these servers than they can handle, causing them to crash.

Corrupted game files –

A damaged game file can cause an impaired connection to the server, or sometimes may not be able to connect at all. This generally occurs due to a virus, or another program that competes with this.

Network Issues –

The game may not always be at fault. A sluggish or the complete absence of an internet connection could sometimes be the cause of the  “Unable To Access Online Services” error. A quick troubleshoot from the user’s end should generally solve the problem.

Troubleshooting the “Unable To Access Online Services” error

This guide shall provide solutions based on the three most common causes of the “Unable To Access Online Services” error as stated above.

The Activision Server Issue-

More often than not, the “Unable To Access Online Services” error can be traced back to a server issue in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The status of the server is visible on the Activision Support Page. All you need to do is check their website and see if the server has a green-colored tick inside a circle next to it. This indicates that the server is running well. The link for their support page is – https://support.activision.com/call-of-duty-warzone

If there is an ongoing issue, the only way out is to patiently wait till the error is resolved by the technical team.

Sometimes, the server from a particular region tends to be down. A PC user can fix this by selecting a different server from the Blizzard Launcher. Xbox and PS4 players cannot change server locations.

An Internet Connection Issue –

As stated above, the Activision servers or the game itself does not always hold the root of the problem. Sometimes, a patchy internet connection may lead to this as well.

You may decide to do this step either before accessing the Activision Support page or Twitter handle or after checking that there is no issue from their end.

The first step, as for any other electronic appliance that may give any issue, is to reboot it. You must disconnect it from the power source, plug it back in and then restart. A period of 30 seconds is recommended before you reconnect it again. Most of the issues are usually solved by this.

To verify that the internet connection is the source of this issue, we advise you to try another inline multiplayer game (preferably from a different developer). If the issue persists with this game, it indicates that the source is your internet connection. You may have to contact your Internet Service Provider to assist you in this process. This again may require some time, and hence once the issue has been communicated, you might have to wait till they fix it. This again should solve the “Unable To Access Online Services” error.
