VanMoof Electrified S2 Ebike Review

VanMoof has established its authority in the world of electric bikes. The base model starts at $1000 that is integrated with batteries, motors and has an excellent appearance. Beyond $1500, you get a sleek design with advanced electronics and high-end components.

Due to their premium built quality, VanMoof is considered as the BMW or Tesla of Ebikes. But is the appearance and built quality everything? In this article, you will come across an unbiased review of VanMoof Electrified S2. We will not only discuss the pros but also take the cons into account. Let’s jump to the reviews!

What is an Electrified S2?

The electrified S2 is an electric bike invented in Amsterdam, the cycling city. It has a stylish and sleek design intended to run in the urban terrains. The best part of Electrified S2 is that its electric persona is hidden.

By looking, you won’t be able to figure out whether it is a normal bike or an electric bike. The only visible part of the electric system is the 250-watt hub motor. Rest all components of the electric system like 500Wh battery and LED display is seamlessly fixed into the Ebike’s frame.

The design of Electrified S2 provides a comfortable riding experience for the riders. The handlebars are placed at the right point, but the pedal mechanism is not much convincing. If comfort is your main criteria while purchasing an Ebike, close your eyes and book VanMoof Electrified S2.

For your ease of decision, we have further divided the reviews based on the pros and cons of Electrified S2.

  • Electrified S2 review – The good points: –
  1. With VanMoof Electrified S2, you can travel around 45-50 km in one hour.
  2. You don’t have to bend and strain your back while riding. The position is comfortable and upright.
  3. VanMoof provides 24 hours of online customer support. They have “no question return policy.” This means if you are not satisfied with the riding experience, file a complaint and return the bike without answering any questions.
  4. The automatic lights are fixed with sensors and work flawlessly. The lights automatically glow when you enter a dark area such as a tunnel, and turns off upon exiting.
  5. The mudguards are perfectly designed, and the built quality is premium.

  • Electrified S2 review – The average points: –
  1. Pedal Mechanism: -The pedal mechanism turns out to be annoying if you are cycling in the city. You have to pedal half a revolution, and then the motor kicks in. It’s not bad, but for $2000, we expect a little more. If you are cycling in long straights with not much traffic, you will definitely enjoy the riding experience.
  2. Standard Mounts: – You won’t find any standard accessories or bottle mounts on the frame. Thus, if you are planning for a long ride, don’t forget to carry a bag pack.
  3. Power: – The power supplied by the battery is decent and not exceptional. The bike does pretty well on flat terrains, but there is not much power to climb small inclines. Even the boost button does not provide enough power.
  4. LED Battery: – There are too many lights on the LED battery gauge because of which it becomes difficult to identify the battery percentage. There have been many reported cases where people had to take out their smartphones to check the battery percentage. Hence, limiting the lights will be a better option.
  5. Non-removable battery: – The non-removable battery makes up for a poor riding experience in the urban areas. You cannot charge the bike every time at your house.
  6. Battery capacity: – The battery capacity is below average. Even if you don’t use the bike, the battery drains too much. It has to be charged every 6 days.
  • Electrified S2 review – The ugly points: –
  1. The company claims that you can reach 60kms in a single charge. However, the maximum that you can get is 49kms. This is very dishonest.
  2. The motor power drops down drastically if the battery charge goes below 50 percent. This is an un-communicated feature that is not discussed anywhere on their website.
  3. The app and bike connectivity is very disappointing. Unlocking the bike with the app is a common issue faced by many users. Sometimes the app displays “still riding” even when the bike was locked with the stealth lock. This is a major issue. Suppose if your bike gets stolen in this circumstance, will the company accept it? Since according to their app, the bike was not locked properly.
  4. The bike makes a horrible noise while shifting gears. It seems like the gear teeth are getting damaged every time you shift gears. Additionally, the gear can only be changed only at low speed.
  5. The company takes ages to ship the bike to your doorsteps. As mentioned on their website, the bike gets delivered within 3-4 weeks. But practically it never gets delivered within the mentioned time. It usually takes around 6 weeks to reach your home.
